CoverME.gov launches on time, transitioning 60,000 Mainers in record time
CoverME.gov, Maine’s new state-based health insurance marketplace built by IdeaCrew, opened for open enrollment on November 1, 2021 — on time, on budget, and with every one of the more than 60,000 Mainers previously enrolled through the federal marketplace successfully transitioned to the new platform. No accounts were lost.
Maine became the fastest state to transition from the federal marketplace to its own platform, completing the work in eight months. By January 2022, enrollment had grown to a record 66,000 residents — a 10 percent increase over the prior year. The launch was covered widely as a model for how states can build their own infrastructure without long timelines or inflated costs.
