IdeaCrew delivers open-source HRA affordability tool for 14 state-based marketplaces

IdeaCrew, in partnership with Princeton University’s State Health and Value Strategies program and with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, delivered an open-source Individual Coverage HRA affordability calculator used by 14 state-based marketplaces in time for the 2020 open enrollment season. California, New York, Washington, Massachusetts, and the District of Columbia all used it.

Rather than each state paying a separate vendor to build the same tool, IdeaCrew’s shared-services approach meant the work was done once and made available to all. The tool helps consumers understand whether an ICHRA offer from their employer makes individual market coverage unaffordable, and therefore whether they remain eligible for premium tax credits.
